I finally did it! It took me two attempts, but I finally made it to the summit of Mt. Timpanogos. Surprisingly enough, I wasn't sore or tired. I took a three hour nap later that day...it did the trick. I didn't need another nap to recover!

I am a finisher of the Mapleton Moonlight Half Marathon. It has been my favorite half marathon I have ever ran, I've done Moab and St. George as well.
Glow Sticks were all over. People had them around their necks, ankles, hands and even in their hair. There was no way a person could go unseen.
My favorite part about this half marathon is how relaxed it was. The race started at 9 and the winner had to cross the finish line at MIDNIGHT! It was nice because racers could start at any time. My friends and I started at 9:30pm. We had a good steady pace, but I ran faster the last mile or so. I finished at 11:56:56. SO CLOSE!!! I didn't care much, I'm just glad I FINISHED!

If anyone wants to run a half marathon, I would recommend this one!  10/10

Elder Brad Garlock enters MTC

Brad Garlock

Today starts my little brother's two years of his mission. My brother is going to the Portland Oregan Spanish Speaking mission. He will stay in the Provo MTC for six weeks and then labor in Oregan. Lately I have been feeling patient and irritated with Brad. He would leave his underwear on the bathroom floor, plates and crumbs on the couch (two days after I vaccuumed) and would take FOREVER to get a list done. AHHHH he drove me CRAZY some days.

However, I had to say goodbye to him last night and I'm going to miss him more than I thought. This was our conversation.
Me: "Well I probably won't see you tomorrow morning so I"ll say goodbye to you tonight. Too bad I can't give you a hug" (he was set apart as an elder earlier that evening).
Brad: "I can give you a hug"
Me: "I'm a girl"
Brad: "yeah, but you're my sister"

My heart just melted when I heard those words come out of his mouth. Bradley gives me a hard time and tells me how it is, doesn't involve any fluff in a conversation ( which i appriecate). It may seem that he is a little harsh with me, but I now KNOW inside he truely does LOVE ME! and I KNOW he is going to miss me. He may NEVER admit it, but I KNOW! haha

In Training

As most of you know, I like to be active as much as I can. On that note I decided start a bucket list that I want to fiinish before I leave. Here are some items I have chosen.

1. Hike Mt. Timpanogos (doing that this weekend!)

2. HIke the G with Tiffany Hayden (girl from council. She has never done it before and I promised her I would hike it with her before I left).

3. Run two half marathons. The first one is a Moonlight half in Mapleton. It's starts at 9PM and you have to finish before Midnight! The race is August 12th! it's coming up! The second half marathon is the Salt Lake City on Sept 3rd, a couple of weeks before I fly out for the MTC.

4. Have reunions with my former roommates and institute council.

5. Attend the Temple weekly- Let me know if you want to go & I would be delighted to go with you!

6. Have as much fun as possible.

Not a very long bucket list, but I wanted to keep it simple because most of my summer is being dedicated to prepare for my mission. I didn't want to distract myself too much.

Mission Call

Dear Sister Lisa Sharilynn Garlock, you are hereby called to serve for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter days, you will labor in the Scotland/Ireland Mission. You will prepare to teach the Gospel in English. You will report to the England Missionary Training Center on Septemeber 16th, 2011. It is estimated that you will labor for 18 months.

YES, YES,YES! Are you shocked? Don't worry so was I. If you look on the map my mission is colored Green and Rust Orange! I am SO excited! When I read where I was serving I knew the Lord knew the desire of my heart and I knew that the apostles were intuned with the spirit when they assigned my call. My first thought was "How did that happen, I don't even have red hair!" Yes it was a stereotypical thought, but hey sometimes you  can't help the first thought that comes into your mind.

I feel at peace knowing where I'm going. The anticipation was killing me, I have never liked anticipation and this was probably the experience that gave me the most anxiety. I'm just glad I finally know where the Lord wants me.

I feel so grateful for the wonderful people that are in my life and what a great influence you have on me. Thank you for keeping me worthy to do the Lord's work.

Dear Weather,
I want to be able to go outside and smell lovely fragranced flowers, read a book on freshly cut grass, go swimming at an outdoor pool and wear shorts with sandels everyday. Why can't Spring and Summer come, why does it have to Snow in May? I'm ready for Spring and Summer to be here, please allow the seasons to come!

Summer Jobs

I'm REALLY going to take blogging seriously this year and keep everyone updated on the adventures in my life.

This week is the first week at my new job as a receptionist for a CPA company. My main responsibilities are to answer the phone lines, take messages, keep a clean work area and look pretty for the clients who walk in for an appointment! It's nice being able to look nice everyday. Along with my receptionist job I am still working at Hickory Kist Deli in Spanish Fork. I work my receptionist job Mon-Fri 9-3 and I work about three days a week at Hickory Kist.
So far I am LOVING my receptionist job. The summer is not a busy season, i get about 15 calls through out my shift (not alot, it's a call about evey half in hour or so). I bring a book to read or I read some news articles! It's a new experience that I'm beginning to enjoy. I finally feel like I'm moving up in the job world and becoming more professional.
I'm almost off of work, but stay tune for more adventures this summer of 2011!

We were playing a game where the person with the camera names an animal and the people in the picture have to give their first expression when they think of the animal that was named. The animal in this photo was Giraffe.

A silly picture of Brandon and me

We had a frosting fight at Jared Mower's birthday. I got frosting up Benner's nose! haha

This is only a fraction of excitment that Institute has brought into my life.

2010 update

One of my new years resolutions is to be a better blogger, since facebook drives me crazy sometimes. This post will just give you an update on how my life has been since i've gotten back from Ukriane.
 1. I've been on at least one date every week since i've been back (maybe a little exaggrated)
 2. I was able to be hired as a Caregiver. I live with the lady who I take care of. My responsibilites are to count out her medication, order her medication, set up and take her to doctor appointments, go grocery shopping. Some days I feel like a slave, but I think it's worth it because I'm learning a lot.
 3. I will receive my Associates degree from Snow College this spring. My degree is in generals and now I'm working towards a bachelors degree in psychology with a focus of family studies.
 4. I have been called to serve on the Institute Council for UVU. This calling is once in a life time. Once you are called you can never be called again. I feel so blessed that I was able to be called to Institute Council. It has been such a blessing in my life.
 5. Christmas was great! I took a road trip by myself to Pahrump Nevada to spend Christmas with my mom's parents. Great memories will always be sustained from that visit; such as: late night talks with grandma and learning how grandpa likes to eat his popcorn. During that visit I learned more about my family and I feel more connected to them.
 6. New Years was fun. Me and some Institute friends went to Provo Town Centre. We heard that they had a carnival inside and at midnight they light off fireworks. We went for the fireworks, but we brought poppers and silly string! The silly string war was SO MUCH FUN!!! we each had a can and it only lasted us about thirty seconds. Probably a good thing though!
2010 was a great year. I was able to accomplish my five year plan which means I need to creat another five year plan. I can't wait to see what the year 2011 will bring. I'm excited for the adventures that will come into my life.
Sorry I don't have any pictures this time, but  I will have some for my next post. Remember my goal is to BECOME a better blogger. Don't expect me to get it right the first time.
